Sorry but I think your latest just confuses the issue by ignoring the QDM situation....i.e. tracking to a point, not away from it on a radial/QDR

It is an OBS function(omnibearing selector), just like you have on a VOR found in almost all GA training a/c, I'm sure all ppls must have played with one(and had it explained) at some stage.

Most/all fixed and portable GPS use the same nomenclature where the feature exists.

The latest beta doesn't change anything about the selection of a radial, it just colours the opposite radial differently and labels the radials; what am I missing about how it confuses the issue?

We tend to fly "to" (QDM) waypoints rather than away "from" them (QDR/radial) most of the time...a radial is only half the story.

So when we fly to a waypoint, e.g. a waypoint to our west, our track is 270 deg(QDM). Inputing 270 deg as we fly towards it  gives a line saying 090 deg! (Of course we are also on the 090 deg radial/QDR "from" the waypoint but going towards it)

Radial does not equate to OBS

My point is that convention calls it an OBS(as SD does on the HSI), .....and the HSI has a top and tail ;-)

I think it would benefit from an easy access 'Direct to' button in, say, the top right hand corner which would open a drop down box to type in the options.

Thanks Pete, we will consider it further. To be clear, you think the user should be explicitly selecting inbound/outbound when they select the radial, right?

Al, not a chance I'm afraid. This is a request so niche (among our user base) that we almost didn't implement it at all. As it is, we've had to invent a new category of "advanced tools" to hide it in, to avoid over-complicating the user interface for people without an interest in it.

Thanks all. The hyperlinks are not accidental!

What is the significance?

Of a hyperlink? They indicate an action will occur when clicked (rather than opening another menu, or simply being an inert piece of text to show info).

No, I think it was fine as before(without the numbers), just that "radial" should be called OBS. or Omnibearingselector or,OmBrgSel etc and the HSI should have a top and tail (to indicate the selected course) as per conventional HSI.(see attached)

A "to" and "from" flag would be nice showing waypoint passage(green triangle in piccy), but this should be obvious from the map display.

Hi Tim,

the OBS as it is right now is precisely what my onboard GPS Systems do. We have a magenta line for the inbound track and a white for the outbound. With OBS only the Inbound track is specified, your numbers on the track are nice! However I would second the request to have a to/from indication on the HSI, because this is what you need in flying Holdings - but this is _IFR anyway....
Thanks for implemeting
Regards
Erik

Thanks all for the feedback. We've had various feedback on here, Facebook and by email, and it conflicts somewhat. I think what we'll have to do is ship the feature pretty much as-is, then evolve it in future versions based on a wide consensus. I do agree a to/from indicator would be nice.
